Grateful Dead

The experimental and at times psychedelic music of the Grateful Dead continues to inspire generations of devoted Deadheads worldwide.

At RR Auction, we’ve had the pleasure to successfully represent impressive and rare Grateful Dead memorabilia, such as this Grateful Dead original “Steal Your Face” pendant made by Bear Stanley, designer of the Grateful Dead logo.

This circular pendant dates all the way back to 1979, and realized the top bid of $13,477.

Another rare and highly sought-after item was this Grateful Dead “Acid Test Graduation” poster, which brought in many enthusiastic buyers willing to pay a premium. This exceedingly rare poster chronicles the Grateful Dead’s participation in the last of author Ken Kesey’s ‘Acid Test’ parties. Taking place on Halloween 1966, diplomas were handed out to frequent guests at previous parties. This piece of cultural history fetched $11,542 at auction.

Depicting a superhero wearing a graduation cap, this poster was used to advertise the "Acid Test Graduation" held on October 31, 1966. Other guests included the Merry Pranksters and Neal Cassady.

Grateful Dead signed photographs like this one are also very popular at auction, as are Jerry Garcia autographs such as this incredibly rare Jerry Garcia letter. Penned by the band’s lead singer, this handwritten letter sold at auction for $40,625 in January 2015. “Jerry…reportedly wrote the letters to a former ‘Vogue’ magazine model he met in NYC during a series of ‘Grateful Dead’ shows at Radio City Music Hall,” wrote Julia Birkinbine at Closer Weekly. Fox News also covered this amazing consignment, and reported that the model who received the letters auctioned them off to pay her medical bills. You can rely on RR Auction to find the right buyer for your Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia memorabilia.
