A voice that would be heard for generations to come, Judy Garland remains a highly recognizable and acclaimed starlet to this day. While most known for her role as the darling Dorothy Gale in 1939’s The Wizard of Oz, Garland had an illustrious career in film, television and music. Due to her lasting legacy, our bidders are always looking for Judy Garland photographs and autographs. We have offered several rare items in past auctions such as this Garland sisters signed photo and this MGM contract signed by Garland using her legal name, Frances Gumm.

An early photo of Garland posing with her older sisters. The inscription reads, "To Dorothy from the Garland Sistes [sic], Baby Frances" and signed by both her sisters "Jimmie," and "Janie."

Take a look at some of our other fantastic offerings such as this signed photograph of Garland as Dorothy, the role that turned her into a household name. The Wizard of Oz takes the top spot as the most watched film of all time, but there have been very few signed photos that have made their way to auction. PSA reported that this MGM picture is the first example to go to auction in close to two decades. Since signed photos of Garland as the literary heroine are difficult to come by, so the selling price of $25,939 is quite fitting.

Items from the personal life of the Hollywood legend have also made their way to our auction block such as this handwritten letter from Garland to classic pop icon Frank Sinatra. This revealing letter was written to Sinatra in 1949 while she was still married to director Vincente Minnelli. In this letter she writes, “You said today that you’d be neglegent. But darling – that’s so unimportant compared to the great amount of happiness that you’ve given me.” The Boston Globe elaborated more on the affair saying, “Garland resumed her romance with Sinatra in 1955 while separated from then-husband Sid Luft, and the two remained friends until her death in 1969. This intimate and loving letter sold for $5,897 in November 2016.
