In a celebration of more than 100 years of sportsmanship, RR Auction is holding an auction of Olympic memorabilia – just in time for the Paris 2024 Games. Providing more than 400 lots, bidders will have their selection of winner’s and participation medals, torches, pins, badges, and other ephemera.
RR’s Olympic event marks the first public sale of a torch from the Paris 2024 Olympics of which only 2,000 were made, five times less than what has been used in previous events. Accompanying the Paris torch are torches from 32 out of the 37 total Olympic games including some of the rarer varieties: Squaw Valley 1960 (only 25 were made), Grenoble 1968 (only 33 were made), Lake Placid 1980, Albertville 1992, and Lillehammer 1994.
Beyond torches, our selection of medals will make buyers feel like they’re standing on the winner’s podium. This includes more than 75 winner’s medals highlighted by first-place gold medals from St. Louis 1904, Los Angeles 1932, Tokyo 1964, Munich 1972, Sydney 2000, and London 2012. Olympic swimmer Steve Genter’s trio of bronze, silver, and gold winner’s medals from the Munich 1972 Olympics will make an epic addition to any collection.
RR Auction is now in its eighth year of semi-annual Olympic auctions, and we are excited to share these pieces of sports history with our audience. From RR’s Olympic specialist, “The market for Olympic memorabilia has changed dramatically since RR began Olympic auctions almost 10 years ago…. They help involve new and old collectors with a category of memorabilia that wasn’t as widespread until recently. The auctions help drive and maintain interest in the Olympic Games in the years in between the Games themselves.”
If you’re looking to sell your own Olympic items, RR Auction is open to partner with you. Call our consignment specialist at 800-937-3880 or submit photos of your rare pieces for evaluation below.
